Creative Way To Connect Plastic Together!

02/08/2017 at 03:20

Hi all!

I am curious if anyone has attempted at this approach to attach 2 separate pieces of plastic together. I have seen some people already use types of adhesives, screws, nails, or otherwise.

I stumbled upon this video that covers Japanese Wood Locking Techniques. Its basically a nifty way to connect 2 different pieces of wood together without any additional material(s). So by applying this concept with plastic builds, new products/designs can be made with this approach!!

There’s more information online and videos on YouTube to convey this easier.

Here is the link to gifs if my description wasn’t clear.

Hi Nick, thanks for sharing the idea of connecting plastic pieces, and I think the technique you might be hinting at is contact geometry. I’m designing a simple, foldable table using recycled plastic and am trying to incorporate that very idea so that the legs, surfaces etc can be joined or connected and (practically) be used with minimal extra parts. Would love to discuss more on this, feel free to inbox me!

@adugar93 hello anant where are you working in India? I am from India too and would like to collaborate if there’s anything I can help with.

@adugar93 That’s great to hear! Yes I’ll PM you. I’d love to know more about which types of plastic were better as support structures and if the design of the contact shapes affected it at all.

If anyone else has any pictures or experience about this topic it would be great. I think that this approach is an excellent way to make furniture or sell design kits to put pieces together.
