From Plastic Types to 3D Filament Types

12/04/2017 at 19:55

Hello,

I have some questions about from which plastic type to we get which 3d filament type?
or from which plastic type mixed or adding other things to it to make an 3d filament type.

Im going to write all the plastic types and filament types, this will a help for all the other people that are working on it, and also a help for me who want to start working.

Plastic type:
1-PETE = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

2-HDPE = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

3-V = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

4-LDPE = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

5-PP = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

6-PS = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

7-Other = after recycling this type of plastic what for a 3D filament will we get or and what other plastic type must we mix to get a 3D filament and which will be that one ?

Filament Type: From which plastic type after recycling or after recycling and mixing two or more plastic types will we get this types of filaments ?

I don’t think it works the same as if you’re mixing colors to get other colors.

I know that it will be not like mixing colors, because it is chemistry, i said mix because i am not a chemist (they have a word for it) that we non chemist dont know that. It in global to can also understand the other people, and everyone will come to this across. Who wants to know this! Like i came.

I am also not saying that it is easy to do it. It is just an important question.

Please only who knows the answers should write. So this topic to came an usage, knowledge topic not a debate topic.

It’s very basic, first comment is correct; this is not how it works.

PE is still PE after recycling. Mixing different polymers together into unknown polymers will only make it impossible to know how to use the material. It’s not color mixing, it’s different materials.

My best advice to you is to read a lot more about materials, before you spend more time coming up with solutions, you’ll save yourself a lot of wasted time 🙂

What is wrong with you guys!

This is a forum, who dont know ask, who knows answers! and who dont know the answer should not comment.

This is a project that have to do with materials, and a project that is for all humans with different skills that can start a project like this.

The plan from the Precious Plastic is also to can everybody to start this project.
But starting this project we cant expect humans to know about materials or knowing formulas or and study chemistry. So that why and the Precious Plastic created a forum to help humans each other.

We should make as easy as we can to the people with other skills that want to start this project also. Making this possible is only giving this informations to the people and making them as easy we can.

Without knowing this information nobody will start the project, because a waste plastic will always be for them a waste plastic, because they dont know after recycling what will come.

@enis there is a lot of topics around the forum explaining plastic and the way it works. I would advise you take a minute to learn about the topic and come back if you have more questions. A few links for you:

Wow, Nice information. It is one of the best article that I have read. The list of filaments is fine but most of the designers only use few types like ABS, PET, PLA OR Color changing in some specific situations. But Yes it is very imporatnt to select the right filament as per your application otherwise all the efforts will be in vain.

This is very true, and the curiosity is a good thing.. but I think the underlying problem is that when you mix anything else with the plastic you can stand the risk of that plastic being non-recyclable…
We, as common humans, now have the power to reuse the trash we have created over the years, whats the point if we turn it into something that we can’t reuse any further.

>It is not about making it easy to start. You are trying to skip the basic and head straight into the complex – as a result, you stop making sense.

Instead of making excuses and blaming us for not helping you, start where everyone starts: At the beginning, by cracking a book. If you don’t want to put in the time to learn the basics of polymers, you will forever fail attempting to recycle it.

I think maybe a better question (or maybe this is what you are trying to ask) is “which of the 7 recyclable types are best for 3D filament making?” This is what I would like to know atleast.
