Research Survey

Hello all!I compiled some of the best and most popular ideas I have seen regarding modular phones into a document and highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of each. From there I created a survey with the purpose of gathering a lot of information on these ideas within a short period of time. This would allow us to get a better idea of where the demand lies and what the prospective buyers are looking for. We may also find new ideas and new ways of helping implement the design. Please take some time to fill out the survey by following this link – https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NkiV-qh1Imvuatoy3GefASoxBX7o3fum53NdEvaEK6I/viewformPlease feel free to distribute the link to this survey to anyone and everyone! I will be analysing the data and will keep you all updated!Thank you!

It seems to have died a death here – I haven’t had any new participants recently. If we want more trustworthy statistics it’s going to have to be publicised in other places to get far more participants.Keep sharing the link please – https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NkiV-qh1Imvuatoy3GefASoxBX7o3fum53NdEvaEK6I/viewform

I didn’t do an update at 50 responses as the data had barely changed. Sitting at 83 now so lets go for 100 and see what the data looks like then 🙂

Come on guys, we need more people here. So far this survey is the best way to gather valuable information that can help the developers.

Hey all! I have attached the updated reviews. Despite having quadrupled the participants since last time the percentages have remained roughly the same which is interesting to see.If you want the raw data you can find it here – http://1drv.ms/1gQOf9PAlso, a bit off-topic, I’d like to mention some charity work I’m doing for the 5×50 Challenge (www.5×50.org). If you’d like to donate you can by texting “FBSX50 £1” to 70070 or by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/TeamRGUFraserBarclay and hitting donate! Thanks everyone!

I’m not that surprised answers are pretty much similar. After all, in the community participate people who are de facto interested in the idea of the modular phone. Many of us are scientists, either in computers, engineering or technology enthusiasts that have knowledge on how electronics, software, marketing work. I don’t believe this is a representative sample of the society. The challenge will be how to persuade people that are de facto indifferent about modular phones. Also, it would be useful to add to the survey a question about the opinion on the basic hardware. For example, I believe 1GB of Ram is quite low, if you consider the fact that it is hdmi capable. With 2GB standard, you could use this as a media station for your TV over Wi-Fi or cabled HDMI and use the device for something else at the same time, like multitask as a tablet. I don’t think 1GB will be adequate for many users when they can buy a powerful tablet for the same amount of money. Also, 1.4Ghz seems pretty low, if you consider the Nexus 5 has a 2.26Ghz processor and an average tablet has more power. Production cost will be more at the start for a better CPU module but the cost will be dissipated as the technology becomes more accessible and manufacturers adapt their production lines for modules. If you want to market it as a replacement for everything, a multi-tool, I believe being powerful is necessary, or else people will just buy cheap phones and a good tablet. I don’t see how a full-hd resolution will be incorporated with 1GB ram and 1,4Ghz processor with leaving adequate power for multi-tasking or heavy applications

Hi there, I’ve just realized about this survey on 2014. I’m really interested on looking at the questions and results, this is because I’m about running a survey too, but wanted to know if there was a previous intent of doing it, and similar information launched… that’s how I found this. =) very interesting , eventhough i caannot see the questions nor results =( would you please share those again?.
Thnaks in advance! !
