THE METHOD

Hi there…ok, I think the idea of a modular phone in blocks is simply great. It will require a lot of rethinking not only in the design/hardware/software area. Capital, Development, Licensing/Marketing will be critical for such a project to succeed. Since a friend commented me yesterday about phonebloks I’ve been squeezing some ideas out of my mind. These are some of them:1. Commercial attractive: A good durable phone, without the planned obsolescence we see in current technology and market conditions could result in a commercial unviable project but….The building block paradigm could represent a great opportunity for replacement / upgrades and would definitely, if well developed, replace the need of planned obsolescence we see today.2. Technology Licensing: After the development of the first phone, we should set operating and technology standards (Hardware / Software base) and create a “Consortium” for patent and license management with our partners to open the possibility of third party block development and marketing. Imagine other companies developing their compliant BLOKS and competing for your baseboard space……that could mean revenue in means of patent licensing agreements, and broader adoption also.3. Openness: Ok, why restrict the project to 1 or 2 OSes? Why not let the phone work with a number of good mobile Operating Systems, giving the choice to the consumer in a simple block? Being Android, Ubuntu, Firefox…any? Modular kernel design already implemented would let any of the aforementioned work with our BLOKS with little development effort.Well, If I said something that already has, just please direct me to the topics in the forum, I just registered today.ByeVictor Rossetti
