Step #2 – Finding a piece of land
Just another avenue of thought…
Instead of building a community on a “greenfield site” (a patch of land previously untouched by development) – how about considering “brownfield sites” (land previously developed, and now unused, with possibly derelict facilities).
An example could be an old military camp, a derelict airfield, or an old industrial facility. It is possible that there could be problems with contamination from previous activities on the site – but sometimes there are grants available (e.g. from the EU) to help with the clean-up.
I know that it doesn’t sound like the “back to nature” idyl, but it could be compatible with a desire to reclaim the planet from the industrial excesses of the past.
