Namaste! I recently finished my thesis in banana fibre for textile and composite production. The idea of creating value added products from agriculture waste and generating employment was something that really interested me in taking up this project.I came to a realization that area of problem is waste generated from banana plants that have already been harvested and how can this be used as a raw material by creating a system for farmers and employing women by teaching them skills required. The design direction that I took is expected to empower the rural folk by offering unlimited opportunities for employment in the sector stem cultivation, design and fabrication, fibre extraction, weaving of fibres trands into useful products and marketing and sale of these products. To implement this concept a workshop based on skill development was carried out in India and a few prototypes were generated. I would like to know if you guys feel like this is a good alternative source for plastic packaging? Also if someone is doing a similar project, do get in touch!Thank you!
