🌎 PP V3 content translation

18/10/2017 at 22:42

Hello people!

As you know Dave and the team released V3 and updated the website. It would be great help if you could translate a thing or two.

The files for translation and instructions will be added here later, so subscribe to this topic.

If you are still interested in helping out, please comment below or write me a message with the language of your choice. We will form teams. There is a lot of content, so we will need as many volunteers as possible.

♻️ The list of translators and languages : (REGULARLY UPDATED)
@hepzel; @luvinde; @catroventos to Spanish
@catroventos to Galician
@lu; to Portuguese
@kathastrofica; @mariodeo to Portuguese (Brazilian)

PS, if you see someone has already volunteered to translate to your language, still join to help.

It will surelly be useful. Some content will surelly be the same, so that should carry over 🙂
We should not be using anyone’s pernonal GDrive to store our work. Let’s wait for a decision from Jegor&Dave et al to see what they suggest.

Hi Lu,

I would like to participate in translating from english to portuguese. How far have you gotten with translations?

Translate into Georgian

And one suggestion. Let’s use special platform made for translation, e.g. Crowdin.com. The whole process will be more smooth (not sure though how it is done now). Also, they have free plan for open source projects https://crowdin.com/page/open-source-project-setup-request
I have been using this (and other localization) platform for a few years already. It’s better than Google Drive or other workarounds.

очень интересно, а как по цене?
программа бесплатная ?

very interesting, but how about the price?
is the program free?

It’s free for Open Source (and Education) project. Someone from Precious Plastic team just has to feel the form. But first, we should decide do we want it or not. Video review of Crowdin https://youtu.be/F69lAvAKxE4 (somewhat cheezy though 🙂 )

One more option is Google Translator Toolkit (https://translate.google.com/toolkit/). See screenshot for supported formats. You can share these traslation docs like you do with Google drive ones.

And one more, in case of video subtitles I would suggest using https://www.amara.org/en/ . It helps to create better quality subtitles. Like with these warnings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg5vjBItOXg&list=PLB_gnsdi0nelUmgsbrEeFv1WJdEub3kzM&index=6

All right guys!

We will be focusing on Youtube video subtitle translation first. Dave has opened up the community access to video subtitle editing.

As we will be working in language groups, contact the other members who wanted to participate and get to know each other. The subtitles have to be translated and reviewed by different people. Make that arrangement in your groups.

Now you can:
1. Go to Youtube and open Dave’s videos (You have to be logged in on youtube)
2. Go to video settings
3. Select subtitles options
4. Choose Add subtitles/CC
5. You will be taken to Youtube tool for subtitle editing/adding
6. Do the bit by bit translation, keeping the context and meaning as close to the original as possible
7. IMPORTANT > do not submit for review UNTIL someone else has reviewed your work.
This is important as logic and grammar has to be checked first, to make Dave’s live easier.
8. After it is reviewed by someone in/ outside you team, submit for review in Youtube and sometime later it will appear on Youtube (after Dave presses all the necessary buttons)
9. Send me (@jegor-m) the name of the video + link so that I can track the progress.

10. IF you are alone in your group and need someone to review / give feedback on your work, message other members of the community who is speaking that language. Not me, not Dave. Only direct messaging will be efficient in here))
11. IF you still not sure, write me a message (no machine buying requests please)

Hey Jegor,
There are several videos to add translated subtitles but it would make everyone’s lifes easier if the english text was already present to translate from, otherwise we have to listen/pause/write/re-listen/check through the whole thing.
From the videos I find important to have translated subtitles I have only found the english text in the promo (https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_editor?action_mde_edit_form=1&v=2KlW_WmV3Bw&lang=pt-PT&bl=vmp&ui=hd&ref=player&tab=captions) and I haven’t found a way to check if the english text is available without clicking all the way to the point wher I can start adding subtitle text.
Just checking whether a non-automated translatin is present does not seem to help as the Making Plastic Beams video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNGuuSKE1pY) already has spanish and french subtitles but no text to start from in edit mode (https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_editor?action_mde_edit_form=1&v=zNGuuSKE1pY&lang=pt-PT&bl=vmp&ui=hd&ref=player&tab=captions).
Can all the V3-related videos get english text to start from?

Hi !

@denfer007, @asmarf, did you have some work in progress not uploaded to the dropbox ?

I didn’t find any source file for the PDFs (docx, odt, whatever). Can that be made available to us ?

Cheers,

@seyn-sustainableenergyyouthnetwork: to which video did you create the greek subtitles? I find no video called “All about Plastic”.
Additionally you can add subtitles directly on YouTube as @jegor-m explained:

7. IMPORTANT > do not submit for review UNTIL someone else has reviewed your work.This is important as logic and grammar has to be checked first, to make Dave’s live easier.

Only direct messaging will be efficient in here))11. IF you still not sure, write me a message (no machine buying requests please)

Hi Dimitri (@dbougas), sorry I forgot to follow up on you msgs!
@jegor-m: has anyone reviewed the english subtitles on this video? In which other videos can we add english subtitles?
@davehakkens: since you are now starting PPv4, should we still be focusing on these translations? And btw, well done on the prize and hope to meet you if you’re coming to Portugal this summer! 🙂

@imuh, it’s a pity that we have not seen this translation, which was made at the same time as ours (in Tunisia), but we have made something more, we have also translated the pictures 😉 :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wmPrucc4qBUAu_r5N8_lKVQTqTMVDLa7/view

and here is the editable document :
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sjFX3O6R2amBDX2WQRJpRfeFU8ci3gS_H3VW0ABQYrk/edit?usp=sharing

maybe we can fusion the two versions …
