A.I.D.S.: Advanced Innovation for Disposable Scraps (Robotics)

After watching the videos of precious plastics uploaded by Sir Dave Hakkens, my team in Junior High School (composed of Diana, Irish, Ace and Camila) from the Philippines was inspired to make a robot prototype that can convert HDPE and PP plastic wastes into tiles and other materials such as picture frames, ref magnets, and paperweights.. We put a tube that connects the shredder and the furnace and the time of when the shredder and furnace will work was programmed automatically using Lego Mindstorms Ev3 and NXT.

The kids chose that acronym intentionally to gain more attention from the readers..

Great project, and I love the idea of fusing all the machines together to create a unique product.
I don’t like the project name that much, since it uses the same acronym as “acquired immune deficiency syndrome”, but that’s the least important.
On the first picture you will notice that the bottom part of the heart-shaped objects was still rough… but on the second picture you will see that the bottom part of each object looked nicer and better compared to the other picture . 🙂

yes, shredding, melting and molding happened inside the robot, but we still need to polish the heart-shaped objects using grinder and sandpaper to make it look nicer.. I attached the picture of my students who encouraged me and worked with me on this project.. 🙂

Interesting project @edsel! Did everything happen inside that black robot? And do you happen to have a few pictures of those heart-shape items? They look very nice!
