Ask Me Anything
This topic is for you community. The place to ask me anything.
Favorite project, best holiday, what motivates me, what time I wake up, if i know square-dancing, everything goes here.
Have a look through the older questions ones because I won’t answer the same twice.
Shoot your questions 🙂
Hola dave, tengo una duda y espero me puedas ayudar a resolverla.De que manera limpio mi plastico de residuos.
Hi Dave, I have a question and I hope you can help me solve it. How clean my waste plastic.
Dear Mr. Hakkens,
We have been forwarded by Olivier López whom we talked to and he mentioned that there might be a possibility to meet up with you as we are in the Netherlands. We are last year international business students at the Hanze University in Groningen. We are currently devoting our time to study the concept of precious plastics. We believe that precious plastics has the criteria to be perceived as a new business model. We have been browsing through the community of precious plastics for the past few weeks. We were hoping to conduct an interview about precious. We were wondering whether you would feel free to do this and whether you have time.
Perhaps we could post our findings on the community page. We would like to thank you in advance for your time, consideration and efforts.

Hello, to every person in this community. I want to start the recycling process. But as i have never done such tasks before. I would like to know how much of the time do every one of you guys invest in this project. Because i think i am facing a question of chosing between recycling plastic and my dream job. But i am thinking of handling them both. So i want to know how do you guys manage this. 🙂
Have you or are you going to design a twin shaft shredder anytime soon
Hey! I’m new to the community, but I’ve been a fan of precious plastic and some of your other projects for about 2 years now, since I saw them.
I have a question to you, about privacy. What is your opinion about it? Especially regarding google and other tech giants. Do you do anything to protect your info from data mining? Do you accept it? Do you still use their products? Just curious, how someone like you, publishing everything open-source thinks about the topic.
I think @matia.io ‘s opinion would be interesting as well.
Thanks, and keep it up!!
that’s a good one! i always was wondering how people like you can sleep at night, knowing there are thousands of good people being exposed to half-baken products, running a few thousand euros into the ground due to the lack of mis-leading or false information. Money which obliviously should go to projects creating less damages to the environment… !
I’am a maker (I make mostli kifes, machines and plastic recycled objects) and I will be student at the DAE next year. Searching a place where I can develop my activity and live for the next 3 years, I found the plugin city 2.0 project. I saw that you installed a contener of PP there. Is it possible to become a plugger there? If so where should I ask?
Ho and in few words, what do you think of the scool?
Thanks by advance, looking forward to the the precious plastic Container if it still there!
Is the download KIT contains the files of the latest version of Precious Plastic? I want to build the machine with the latest specification of the PP machines. If yes Ok, If not then somebody please guide me.
Hi Dave! I want to spread the word about Precious Plastic in my city Jaipur, Rajasthan (India). I would like to build an official Precious Plastic community here and proceed with your movement. I am deeply interested in the Plastic Shredder machine. It will help to solve quite a number of problems like garbage, plastic pollution, unemployment, and others. Please help as to how I can start. Thanks!
I am Martin a mechanics student from Ecuador and I would like to start doing crazy things with recycled plastic. I have been searching about polymers and its structure but I would like to go deeper and read more about the structure of poymers focused to the recycling thing. The other thing is that I would like to make my own chop machine and I think with some advices from you I can make an efficient and good one.
Hello, @davehakkens , could you kindly tell me is it possible to make similar (wide) planks by your extruder and tube like you have used in your video?
This plank contain 30-50% of wooden powder, other part is recycled plastic.
I mean will be enough pressure power? Or it will cool down…
Hi Dave, hi world…
I’m interested to build the machines to organize with’ my own association lot of “Collecting waste days” where I’m involving other charity association or family house to go and clean rivers, beaches and abandoned places… and to explain them how to do something for our planet, for eachother..
I’ve so many ideas on my mind, and I’ll begin one by one…
I’m experimenting my life and the most important thing that I’ve learned is that: Why you want to be the first if this means that someone will be the last?? I’m living helping all the creatures around me… I WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD. Your project it’s something AMAZING!! I’m gonna build all the machines this winter… and I’ll let you know all the upgrades…
I want to ask you this: Could I come personally there in Eindhoven to visit you, to meet all of you and to learn… I’d like to come for a weekend soon… and maybe when I will have sort of vacation by work I’d like to be helpful to you and stay longer….
It’s possibile to come and visit you and your project?
thanks a lot, to you and all the fentastic people that enjoy you and try everyday to make the world a better place!
I have studied your new plan. Looks good. I wouild like to help you, but I do not have that clear idea in wat I would be an expert. There is another idea in me. You do lots of photos and videos, s. For other presentations (Onzekathedralenbouwers) I have built objects from waste material special for all our photos, s to show. The public can scroll with the help of a rolling expansion vessel and so go forward or bachward through a slideshow. Perhaps useful for your open days. I have seven of them.http://www.onzekathedralenbouwers.nl/bob/images/phocagallery/theaterfestival/dsc05546.jpgThere are old computers but they can also be controlled by Raspberry pi’s, I have a lot of experience with that.
regards Kees van den Boogaart
I would like to know where we can find you on the 21st October, as you mention in your video that you will be at Eindhoven? Would love to meet and share ideas and see your creations!
Hi Dave, I have some other project thay may interest you for the same cause!
Is there any other contact, skype or something like this?
Thank you and take care 😉
Hello! Reducer on the shredder 30 rpm, engine power 2 kW and what output force Reducer should be newton ?
I had been saving clean water drinking bottles, as during that era I had to purchased large amounts of bottled water; and what I was left with was a little more than 20.4 cubic meters in volume space occupancy (= equivalent to more than 660 cubic feet), and that was what was remaining, after throwing away about a 1/6th of the initial quantity in awaiting for the recycling agency to collect the water bottles which were previously used by me, but cleaned and returned in their plastic wrap cluster.
Those individuals and companies in Curacao, never responded or requested an equivalence of about $200 USD to pickup the drinking water bottles collection but then the used drinking water bottles; they said would be sent to the dumping ground garbage site.
However; in good conscious I couldn’t accept that because my philosophy is in a Clean Curacao – “precious plastics style”, recycling first, besides that was the reason why I had saved them.
In continuing; I spoke with a local recycling depot and got the same statement pay them $200 USD to pickup the water bottles, I thought that was unjust and “greed” and I understand that everyone needs to eat and make some money from something but then again you should not call yourself a foundation organization but operating under a business principles and mentality.
Continuing; as I moved I tried to keep as much of the clean stored drinking water bottles as possible, and furthermore; I have still not gotten a response from Limpi Recycle but I would not pay them or any other foundation $200 USD equivalence to pickup these water bottles.
Therefore, I was referred to a foundation Million Waves Foundation whose mission was taking the plastics and helping those physically challenged individuals with prosthetic parts, I thought it was so wonderful, however I had to pay for freight to get it to them and it needed to be shredded to be shipped. I am a person that blieves in collaboration and helping others alturtistically, hence why you; (Dave Hakkens); and I, are crossing paths! I see so much more of helping others and cleaning curacao atthe same time and would like the help of the community as much as possible to that.
Hence, after hearing about the good work you are doing, and failure of the local recycling companies and foundations to accept my donation, I am looking for your help and assistance and that of the community to really try and clean curacao of the recyclable plastics littering the country and first starting with my own donation of what I have.
Therefore, please inform me, where do I go from here?
Whom can I seriously contact with to donate what is left of the quantity of plastic drinking bottles and for them to collect it, shredded, and whatever else from thereforth.
*MY PROGRESSIVE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM:
I started a project to try and help others whom maybe in the same or similar situation as myself, wanting to donate recyclable plastic: https://davehakkens.nl/community/forums/topic/clean-curacao-precious-plastic-project-2-19/ .
*AGAIN TO RECAP:
I would like some help and assistance, and I haven’t gotten any response from Limpi Recycling. Please let me know how can I donate these bottles for a precious plastic purpose.
I am in Curacao. In addition, one other suggestion; please correct your country list to include Curacao; presently it only contains Aruba as part of the ABC Islands in The Dutch Caribbean.
LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR RESPONSE & REPLY
Help! Hoe krijg ik dit van de grond?
Hi Dave i’m happy to show you the Extruder i have made my-self with reference of your blueprints . Thank you for sharing that. Please have a look of my Extruder and i have recently completed this and planning for making beams currently. I will keep updating as and when i do my first step of making things out of this.
Thank you and good day.
I have downloaded the precious-plastic-kit-master and i want to see where this can take me but I can’t seem to find the blueprint of the upgraded version of the shredder axe, could you point me in the right direction.
Hi Dave Hakkens,
I’m trying to figure out a way to donate 3.000 plastic bottles (have contained water only) on October 31 from a conference in The Hague. I’ve also posted in community “meet eachother” – but as the deadline is rather tight, I’m also writing my question here. I really hope that someone can make use of these bottles:).

Hi there, I am doing my GCSEs this year and have started my design and technology portfolio. For my primary research, I was wondering if you might have any information about the following questions:
Do you have any first hand experience of the plastic recycling facilities that are currently available in developing countries such as the Philippines and India?
I understand that many people make a living gathering recyclable items from rubbish heaps and dump sites. Do you know who buys these items and if so, what are they used for?
If people had equipment to shred plastics themselves, is there a market for selling shredded plastics?
And do you know if there is a difference in the value of shredded and non-shredded plastic?
Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to offer.
Hello. I am starting a project with your guide in my city, San José, Costa Rica. I am trying to find people who work with metal to be able to build the shredder. l found someone but he needs the guides, blueprints and other files in spanish. Do you have them? anybody? Could you send them to me please? Thank you!
hi dave, i’m amir and i’m doing a research that make a recycling machine. this research is for my undergraduate thesis. here is just a general description of my machine:
– using for recycling plastic (PP) hope it works with others type of plastics.
– not using electrical heating element.
– heated by controlled hot air from combustion chamber.
– vertical barell (gravity helped for pressure)
i burn something (i.e. twigs, old wood,) in the combustion chamber to produce hot air which i could control the flow rate. But i got a little problem about the machine. i could’t find the melting position in the barell. could you help me about the heat transfer?
if my thesis done i’ll give you the soft copy of my research. thank you.
you can contact me by email: [email protected]
First, thank you for what you have done in creating Precious Plastic, the community which is growing there and around the world because of it, and for this online space where we all can meet. I think it is a beautiful thing. I have no doubt that you are extremely busy. However, as a member of a local Ethical Humanist Society here, I would like to interview you about what you have created, what you are doing now, and what you plan to do in future. It would be for one of our January 2019 meetings – either recorded (anytime) or live (Sunday afternoons). If that is not possible, I am certain that I can get many of the answers to my questions here. Whether through an interview or simply through my research of your previous answers to questions, I thank you for your time and attention.
