Maybe something that should be listed in the phonebloks online store is expected and average lifespan, so if a company list lifespan as 2 years, and the people that have the product fail on them all say say 1 year, then the company isn’t being truthful or they should revise their test, and is everyone says the product is failing in an unreasonably short period of time, then one shouldn’t buy the product. A way of checking for planned or unplanned obsolescence. The longer lasting product is bought more than the shorter lifespan part. If your product’s lifespan is over ten percent under the list life, or does not meet a standard for lifespan, it shows up lower in searches and may be removed altogether.
The Light bulb conspiracy suggests that it is necessary for commercial products to have a certain lifespan so that consumers keep buying it and the economy keeps running.I believe there are other ways of keeping the economy running which are both cost effective and environmentally friendly. What we at Phonebloks can do is sell the basic skeleton at a low but fixed price and sell the bloks at different prices varying on the materials and the brand. To avoid obsolescence we can provide an e-commerce site where Phoneblokers(users of phonebloks) can sell/trade/buythe bloks they need by doing so there will be no wastage of bloks.
i also belive this and must say it is true that this ishappening but we can stop this i think that the phone bloks will allow you to easily allow you to repair what is broken instead buying a whole new product with a shorter lifespan
Devavratatupe: Phoneblokers should be careful not to have bloks on the e-commerce site that are partly damaged, exhibiting abnormal behavior or are near the end of their lifespan or past their lifespan because everyone would want to get a fair and fully functional blok from the site so it should be known to all sellers/trades/buyers on the site that the site only allows fully functional bloks to be bought, sold and traded.
The person who wants to trade bloks at the e-commerce site must make his own profile wherein personal details such as e-mail id etc. If the buyer of the bloks finds any problem with his bloks he should report at the quality control department on the site and the needful will be done then.
All must start from the best possible base. The frame must be guaranteed that will be the best modern technology can offer. As far as hardware goes it must be futureproof. For at least 10 years the product must be operable and upgradeable, after that the product must remain serviceable until software upgrade is impossible. Every new base must be a totally new product with radical advancements hardware so there is plenty room for software development. Without the tricks that the pc industry uses, like, the deliberate software slowdown. Imagine a today’s pc with no software carp and a basic graphical UI optimised for total efficiency. We must not dumb down the machines, instead educate the people. I am not saying to return to Dos but keep simple and optimised.
Devavratatupe: I agree with you on the need for sellers to make their own profile including providing email, I also think that sellers should be verified because it is easy for a person with malicious intent to create a fake profile and start selling or trading infected hardware.
I think that the bloks that are going to be sold by third party’s should still be controlled by Phonebloks and should be certified or rated like in the electronics store CEX or an efficiency rating like PSU e.g. 80+ Bronze.
Jacob Krause: I agree with you, what could be done about it is that we can send a few unique identification no. to the provided email address on a regular basis for instance, one I.D no. every week as it could be a fake email account the creater of the fake account won’t be able to keep track of the required I.D number.George Chetwood: I agree with the rating part, we could do with the consumer response as well if a particular person was a victim he could provide his views over it.
Devavratatupe: That is a possible way of preventing infected hardware from being bought/sold/traded on the e-commerce store, the creators of Phonebloks may look into it.

You mean like computer parts? In a sense, this whole concept is quite the parallel to building desktops.
Another suggestion to the whole e-commerce idea is rather than creating a new site that sells and trades Bloks, these parts can be distributed through sites like NewEgg. For instance, if NewEgg were to have a section dedicated to distributing Bloks, (much like their sections on computer parts), then Phonebloks would have a reliable third party not only distributing parts, but refurbishing and repairing used parts that still wish to be sold, preventing potential malicious sellers of corrupted Bloks from compromising a portion of the market.
Yeah I guess you could say that but when it comes to building desktops there are many manufacturers of computer parts, what we could do is create an associate company under the phoneblok name and sell the essential blocks/parts that way we can maintain the quality as well as avoid the malicious sellers of corrupted bloks. An e-commerce website could follow this up or @michaelj7 your suggestion can be put into work.
i think that this would be an effective strategy starting up but will not be as fond in the begining or at all to customers that we don’t have our own website
we should do at least like lg did and have our own websites with “where to buy” at places like newegg or something like that
