Buttons for Gaming
So here’s a thought: mobile gaming is becoming increasingly popular. If the phoneblok platform is gonna end up supporting a powerful processor, then we could consider selling assignable game-button bloks to the back of the phone. This will be particularly effective if you run an android (or other open-sourceware) OS that allows app developers to code games that can utilize these buttons. I think any mobile gamer knows the frustration of being restricted to touchscreen buttons, and several products already exist to turn your iphone, etc. into gamepads with tangible buttons. If phonebloks allowed custom buttons for gamers, I’m confident it would sell well and attract the gamer niche to the phoneblok product.
Or maybe a front panel (Screen panel) That was a little smaller, with buttons and a D Pad integrated into it on the top and bottom of the screen. That way, you just turn it to the side, and you have a gaming device. If you want to use your phone for videos and whatnot, you can always just swap out the screen assembly.
ooh. Cool idea. Of course in all of this, size could be an issue. Adding buttons to either the front OR the back will take up some serious real-esate.

You could keep the D Pad fairly small, and stack two buttons right on top of each other. Say one inch for the D Pad, and one inch for the buttons on each side. If the phone is normally say the size of a 4S, then it would be closer to the size of an Iphone 4 with the buttons. Still not terrible.
This is a great idea, I just have one thing to add. It would be better if the buttons were on the front and not the back. They could make special screens that are smaller but have the buttons beside or underneath. That way you know what button you’re hitting, and you aren’t blind to what you’re doing.
You could make a back panel that folds or even slides put like a sd card almost spring loaded kinda
