Experience in recycling nylon?

Hey there guys,
this is Bas from Sick Plastic. We recycle beach plastic in The Netherlands and want to dive into nylon recycling since a huge part of the beach plastic is fishing nets (they are made from nylon and PP).
And since we are probably not the only ones we would like to know if there are precious people out there who already have experience with melting/recycling nylon?
If you have questions about recycling beach plastic send me a pm maybe we can help you 🙂
Cheers, Bas
Hi Bas @baas,
I guess you know about the other topics regarding recyclig Ocean Plastic, like:
Ocean plastic research
Ocean Plastic in Design/ Architecture MasterThesis
so I won’t mention them 😉
I have been thinking about using nylon to strenghten building materials like plastic bricks and (roof) tiles, but I would love to hear your opinion if this would actually work.
Eindhoven is (luckily) still a long way from ‘the beach’, but I’m sure we could set up an exchange program!
Hey Donald,
yeah the most nylon types are strong so that is good for bricks i guess but haven’t worked with it yet so can’t say so much about it yet. Also nylon is chemically way more complicated than HDPE etc and i was reading there are some chemical additives in the stronger nylon types which are not very healthy so, before starting a project, this is something to think about.
But yeah let’s keep in touch 🙂
