Greetings from Saigon!

Hello!
Here at Fablab Saigon, we are starting a Plastic recycling Project, based on the Precious plastic project together with Nguyen Tat Thanh University. “We” are a group of 6 People at the moment:
Hai, Linh, Mi, (mech. Student), Karl and Hannah.

In our opinion, Plastic waste isn’t a final state. Most Thermoplastics can be recycled just by remelting them. We thought a good way to do this, is by the help of a 3D- printer, as this allows the upcycling process to increase the value a lot.

Recycling the plastic for this project basically consists of three steps:
a) Sorting
b) Shredding
c) Filamentation
To build the machines for Shredding and filamentation, we will try to adapt the plans from PreciousPlastic to our needs.
The practice is very similar to precious plastic but we will try to create a 3D-printer filament, which will be more or less a high tech product.

This Project has two main goals:
1) Investigate the possibility of recycling plastic waste to 3D printing filament
2) Construct a capacity building course “Recycle plastic waste to 3D printing filament” to replicate the project at the community level.

These aims were set, when the project was started by Hannah and MI.
Hannah, the initiator of the project approached Mi to realize a PreciousPlastic based project at Mi’s University. She then brought other people into the project. That’s how Karl, Linh and Hai as well as Fablab Saigon got involved.

Happy to read from Like minded people on this platform. Do u have a page like willy that can be followed. To make this project more effective in rural Africa my team of 4 want to make the machine work on free energy. Once the project is complete we will post on the platform
