Happy Easter… with plastic eggs!
Happy Easter Everyone!
Just wanted to share the plastic Easter eggs we made with our injection moulding machine in the Maldives. We are based at Soneva Fushi resort and have been recycling bottle tops into eggs.
I tried a ‘quick release’ approach to the cast aluminium mould, hanging it off a custom ‘T’ piece on the nozzle and holding it shut with vice grips, which works quite nicely. Happy to share more details if anyone’s interested.
Woah, this is super cool!!
Very nice finish, how did you polish them?
There was some flashing on the join when they came out (I hope my next mould will be a lot better). This I could just cut off with a knife while warm, and then I used a sander to remove the roughness. Finally I used a buffing wheel and buffing compound to polish it up.
These photos are of the first egg I made. I made improvements to the mould so that I didn’t really need the sanding step for later eggs, just buffing.
Congrats guys, your finishing are perfect !
I tried to use my aluminium mould for compression, more tricky but doable 😉
Wonderful use for the Easter season. Congrats.
