How to shredder Memory foam ?

17/02/2017 at 12:38

Hello,

we are looking for a shredder who could cut “memory foam” into chips / stick but not flakes. Flakes are bad, because they jam and it is difficult to de-jam them.

The chips / sticks should have a size of 1x1cm and max 4 or 5 cm long – shorter is no problem. See attached picture.

We have tons of this material and would like to re-use it.

Has somebody an idea ?

Best regards

To make chips/sticks out of recycled plastic, you’ll need to use the extruder along with a rotating blade.

However, if i’m not mistaken, memory foam is made from PU, which is thermosetting, so you will need rebonding and around 30% virgin materials(chemicals) to re-use them. As far as i know, recycled foam is used as filler in other products.

What do you mean with: “extruder along with a rotating blade.” ?

Could you send a picture ?

Many thx,

Joerg
