Making the Shredder

Hi,
I am interested in building the plastic shredder but 1, I don’t have the software to open the CAD Files. Does anyone have a recommended software?
2. I live in Shanghai and could not find someone who could cut the metal for me. If I use 1cm thick plywood for the blades would it work?
any help would be useful.
Thanks
Hi Cleo,
1: Should be easy to find, but honestly haven’t got any experience. We used Autodesk Fusion.
2: Nope, definitely need something stronger then plywood!
@cleotheshredder Autodesk is free to students for a year or more & I’m pretty sure so is Fusion
The PDF plans in the download kit are all to scale & very clearly documented, you should have no trouble working from them, you may even been able to have them printed to actual size.
@cleotheshredder let me a look for you, I’m new here to. I’ll make a PDF if there is not one
With these 3 file with the measurements that are on them, you should be able to make what you want.
I would like to thank everybody that responded to me so quick. I am very excited on starting the build.
Thanks you very much
One last question,
Would you think it would work to power the shredder with my cordless drill.
@Davehakkens
How much did it cost you to machine the part for the shredding mechanism?
Thanks
Dear Enviro,
the information you posted is on the downloadable files, I want to use this post regarding the Shredder knives too.
I can see the dimensions for the knife but on the video and the drawings shows something like a sharpen on the top and bottom of the knife, it should be an angle to cut the plastic, do you have detailed information of it, also there is no drawing of the knife with dimensions, there is the overview but no one specific for the knife showing dimensions and the angle it should have.
I really appreciate if you can give me details.
Regards,
Carlos

I don’t think so, you need quite some power. Plastic can be a tough one.

You can find all that information in the download-kit.
@carlos you can find more files and detailed information in the download-kit as well. If you need more exact measurements of the blade itself I suggest to open the 3D file.
I am looking for someone who would sell a shredder kit form of the shredder in the States. Anyone?
