Molds from the scrapyard

There are a lot of nice shapes and pieces of metal on the scrapyard:)
I found this air cooler and I tried to make a mold from it
Made a case around it from metal, using screws to attach it to the aluminium.
I used PP because of the shrinking when cooled down, melting in the compression oven for 90 minutes on 230 C.
It was very difficult to get out the plastic, but it worked out somehow.

You could spray with a release agent to help get the molded sections out. It will reduce the frustration level if you are going to do this regularly.
Hey there, possibly this is already known but I stumbled today over some larger bearings. They seem to be perfect for making wheels, pulleys, pulley stacks, gears, rings and may be even chains for your next garden swing … up to you 🙂 You can buy them also for cheap at second hand traders per kilo (10-20e/kg) or online. On the table you see : FAG – 6311, 1311K.TV.C3 and 22309E.C3. The outer and inner rings is made from hardened high quality steel; impossible to drill with the usual DIYer tools.
using bearings: pleasant to work with; I just tried ‘SEBS’ (very liquid, used for movie sculptures & medical edu simulators) with no idea about temperatures and times. I had 2 awesome air explosions leaving an interesting mess around but that’s it; well, and no idea who left the spliff in the barrel but interesting too 🙂
