Motor connection assistance

13/10/2019 at 18:54

Good afternoon,

I’m currently in the process of trying to finish up my shredder so that I can actually start shredding plastics! I’ve come across a final issue ( I hope ).

Currently I have the shredder assembled, and I also have two keyed motors (7/8 inch shaft) and a Boston gearbox which reduces to about 60-70rpm with a keyed shaft ~1 1/4 inch diameter and a gear with almost 1/2 inch teeth.

Currently the shredder shaft I have is not keyed, and seems to be about 20mm, almost 3/4 inch diameter.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to connect the motor to the shredder, I was thinking of adding a gear on the shaft and using a chain, but I can’t seem to find the correct sprockets and shaft connections required. Or would it be cheaper to key the shaft and use a keyed connection with sprocket?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David
