Hi there,
I am really ethousiastic about this whole recyclingstation. (My son also by the way, he’s eleven and now want to learn how to weld so we can start machine building). I am thinking about making a recycling demonstration unit in a van or small truck so we can go to festivals or other events to recycle plastic on different locations. So we will need a workplace (stationary) and a collection/demonstration/salespoint in a van or so. Anybody got tips, tops or advice?
Hey Andjo,
we’re from fablab de Kaasfabriek (Fablab the cheesefactory) in Alkmaar and have build some of the machines. While still under construction, they are partially used in a for the purpose rebuild caravan (by us) to be able to visit schools. It is now called: Het afval lab. (the waistlab) The kids have to wear a white lab jacket, safety goggles and welding gloves to shred and melt plastics into small molds, after being told how to recognize, clean and handle their platic waist. Its about awareness and recycling and hopefully Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young-isch: teach your parents well….
The caravan’s initiative is from Marije van der Stelt and her compagny is called: http://www.klasopgroen.nl
If you want, we can teach your son the basic principles of welding and advice you in achieving the right equipment. He is young, but we have kids of his age with the most fantastic projects. Send an email to [email protected] if you want more specific information.
Wow! Loved Klasopgroen, thanks for sharing! I lived in The Netherlands for 13 years and I am currently based in Cape Verde. Doing small-scale recycling with children, as here everything comes from abroad and it becomes quite expensive. The kids love it and it is a huge need as the island is full of plastic and garbage. I will definitely follow your activities, very happy to have come across your project! Maybe one day we can have our own afval lab 🙂
wow what a beautiful place to be Helia, but I can see your problem as far transportation concerns if you think of building such machines…
If we ever can be of assistance in providing specific stuff you can’t get your hands on in Cape Verde and anyone from your Dutch family, friends or even tourists from this community visiting you’re island are willing to put it in their luggage, let us know.
Good luck in your environmental efforts and achieving your dreams,
Boy
This is a great idea to take the knowledge to the schools.
If you setup your workshop in a goods container, it should be movable to wherever you want to go for demo.
