Nichrome Wire (Toaster Wire) instead of Heat Bands

18/05/2018 at 05:26

Hey All,
So I was watching the Story of PP on youtube and Dave shows us his first extruder. It looks like its using Nichrome Wire and that got me asking a few questions.

In a lot of the countries, I have thought about doing PP machines I have never been able to buy the band heaters (along with loads more items) but toasters are always something easy to find.

So my question is. What was the reason for stopping the pursuit of Nichrome wire in the use of injection and extrusion machines and is there a way of making your own (safe) band heater? From what I know a band heater is a wire surrounded by ceramic.
