Protection against jamming on the shredder.

I’m afraid to spoil the motor windings or the shredder shaft if I put something too strong in it. I know that you can use protection against overcurrent on the motor, but how to choose it correctly? Suppose if the rated current of the motor is 5 amer, then at what current should the protection be triggered?

Look at the name plate of your motor, Look at the amp ratingand then go to your local electrical supplier and get the next size up. These don’t blow at start up butdo blow if your current of the motor is run continiously like when it jams.
