Removing labels from plastics
Hi there PP folks,
I have to remove labels from plastic waterpipe fittings at work every day. Some are stuck on really tightly.
I use a heat gun to soften the glue under the label, peel it off and then use turpentine to remove the glue residue, then mentholated spirits to remove the turpentine residue.
I have seen plastic milk jugs shredded and melted but contaminated by labels.
This tip may be useful or not.
Another method I’ve seen is simply by putting some hot water inside the milk jug then shaking it, it helps remove some of the labels and you could reuse the same water for many jugs.
Sorry I couldn’t find the video. You still can try that and tell us if it really works.Toggle replies
