Removing labels from plastics

06/12/2017 at 08:35

Hi there PP folks,

I have to remove labels from plastic waterpipe fittings at work every day. Some are stuck on really tightly.

I use a heat gun to soften the glue under the label, peel it off and then use turpentine to remove the glue residue, then metholated spirits to remove the turpentine residue.

I have seen plastic milk jugs shredded and melted but contaminated by labels.

This tip may be useful or not.

Thank you @waterguy !
Allways great to find new ways to peel of those pesky labels!

Another method i saw was a guy using vinegar:

Another method I’ve seen is simply by putting some hot water inside the milk jug then shaking it, it helps remove some of the labels and you could reuse the same water for many jugs.

Sorry I couldn’t find the video. You still can try that and tell us if it really works.
