Shredder built with no welded frame

Hey everyone!
I built a shredder!

Just wanted to leave my feedback in case anyone wants to try this slightly different way of building the shredder..

A steel main plate (lasercut) can be used if you don’t have welding facilities (Couldn’t get around not welding the sieve). Then you can mount that steel plate on top of a bench, wood or aluminium. Others in the forum and me too recommend not to mount the shredder directly on wood as it’s not strong enough, but using this steel plate it will take all the torque loads.

Also on the one on the video I mounted the shredder off the gearbox, which was massive, through another steel plate. This was fine but as the shredder module isn’t very robust by itself, when jamming it tried to twist on itself.

learned: that would be solved by having a plate where the shredder is mounted horizontally, as in the other picture
also learned: Use keyways for the coupling, otherwise it can slip when it jams and score the shafts.

motor: 1.1 kW single phase, 380 Nm, 18 rpm, gearbox size 90, 80:1 ratio
during (“stress testing benchmarking study”) testing it was able to chop polycarbonate 5 mm thick, plywood and even small pieces of aluminium and steel screws

Thanks for the feedback @javierrivera
Mounting the shredder on a flat metal plate Seems to have a great effect on portability. I have a shredder with a 1m tall frame and I’m sure that by applying your method anyone could perfectly place the shredder on a table or workbench and reduce the amount of room it takes.

Yes, also the plate could have 4 slots cut at either side to use as handles so that 2 people can lift the plate.

The main advantage with this is that you don’t need to weld a frame and the plate is taking the shear and torque loads so when you put it on a table or bench it doesn’t need to be massively strong, it’ll only support the weight

Great idea!
