Shredder Completed!

04/10/2019 at 07:27

Finally finished it, took a while and about 2-3000 NZD. Works fine so far, although the tolerances of the design are a little poor and it doesn’t sit together as well as I’d like, but it shreds plastic. Having some issues that I’ve posted questions about in the Questions topic. Frame was made by me and my grandfather, is steel with an aluminium paint coating, motor is a 1.5kW motor with a 50:1 gearbox.

Looks great! 😀

Let us know how it works!

yeah, not too bad. in those cases, please put a dial indicator on the crucial places to see it’s deforming the frame more than 0.8mm in stress situations. if so, please re-enforce structure – otherwise your couplings and the machine itself won’t survive this long. like as being lost in the mountains, follow the water – or in this case : the force 🙂
other than that, please guys – always do take care about the gravity center – especially in high builds like this (i’d cut it by half, you want the hopper top at the elbow height) – just for your own safety. one beer too much can have do quite some disaster.

reminds to bother Eindhoven to open finally a ‘support’ channel’ – not sure we can plug cam & mic there.

Yeah. Unfortunately the current shredder design doesn’t hold it’s shape particularly well if not made precisely. Cause the parts were plasma cut, I had to do a lot of grinding to get everything to fit together. In addition, when welding the frame, it’s difficult to be precise about placement since stuff moves around a bit when welding, so the mounting is a pretty tight. As for the frame, it’s quite stable, but I agree in regards to attaching a hopper onto it. On another note, I’m having trouble with the mesh that goes underneath the shredder. The shredder blades eventually force it up and out of the place it sits. As for how well it works, I’ve shredded quite a few bottles into strips of a sort. Still need to sort out that mesh to get everything nice and regular
