The company that is working with me to get the shredder parts is called “BBC Steel” and they are located in Oregon.
New Prices as of Oct 2019: ( so far the lowest in USA)
– 1 set $425.00
– 2-5 sets 300.00ea
– 6-10 sets $285.00set
– Shafts are still currently at $38.00 but could raise.
– Bearings $17.50ea.
****Shipping is not included – You will have to pay for shipping****
Important: This modifications were necessary for most accessible parts also to keep the prices low.
Blades were modified to fit the 1″ shaft (this set will fit perfect if you buy their shaft and bearings)
Shaft is 1″ with ends machined to 3/4
Bearings are 3/4
You can email Randy Including your name and state you would like to order the shredder parts, keep in mind the prices may be going up due to the material going up in price. BBCSTEEL is one of the few companies that is wiling to work at small scale (one set at the time) Not all companies are willing to work this way since we can’t order in bulk (100s at the time)
Again, We can not afford to lose this company so email with discretion and be polite, this would be ideal for people who require receipts and invoices (If for business, School districts, Non Profit)
Any question don’t hesitate to message me.
I invite everyone to join “Precious Plastic USA” group on Facebook
***If you have a better option of better deal please let us know as we always look for better ways to bring cheaper and more accessible options for the community****
I’m still working with my school to see if we can get funding for this project. But I’ll be sure to share this with the group?
Thank you so much! I will also talk to my group and get ordering as soon as we can!
thank you guys who ordered from BCC steel me and other members got our parts successfully !!
I like to get one guys…any help.
Hi all, I am also interested in this group buy (if it still has not happened as I see it was a while ago when the group was first established). I would be interested in 1 shredder to be the base of a small plastic recycling shop! My email is [email protected]. Im not sure how to get to be a part of this group but if someone sees this let me know!! Happy recycling 🙂
I contacted BBC and I had them get me an estimate with shipping…
he also sent me a list of materials with the attached Shredding Dxf Laser Files V2.0 ( 02_shredding laser overview.pdf )
the problem i see here is that the quantities of blades is wrong and there is no way to build with only 1 of each knife.
according to the document in the kit ( 01_shredding overview.pdf )
the item numbers in the shredding overview and the shredding laser overview don’t match so its difficult to just cross reference.
* What is the quantities of blades that you received from them.
also in the [01_shredding overview] item 1 Shredding Side-plate shows qty-1 should there actually be 2 ?
UPDATE Randy contacted me by phone and confirmed the quantity of parts was correct.
@dreek00 how is your shredder working that you purchased from them?
I haven’t received my quote back from my water jet cutter yet, however, those prices seem awfully high. Was this price based on the entire unit made from stainless steel? Even doing a bulk buy for $340 seems high. I’m sure this price does not include post processing to make sure all the parts fit and function. Does this price also include the hardware, hex shaft, and bearings?
Not trying to step on toes; just seems to be missing information in the deal.
@innerchaos Let me go back to my garage and get back to you on the quantity of the blades
@innerchaos Randy should have all the file I originally sent him this will get you all the parts to build the shredder but I will double check for you
hey @toochi84 thanks for asking! my shredder is coming along pretty well, BBCSTeel is a nice company to work with, Randy is awesome and even corrected some spacers that were cutted at the wrong size.
Yes! all the parts are laser cut in stainless steel 304 as per Dave files.
No 🙁 the price doesn’t include the hardware. Regarding the price BBCSteel seem to be the cheapest one (so far) for the parts AT A SINGLE ORDER (one set of parts for one shredder) and they are also willing to work in a small scale (one by one order)
I am in the North Jersey area and other companies have quoted me $1k to $1500 for a single shredder parts which was high. Also other companies will not work with you as long you order in bulk.
If you find a cheaper price we would love post it and share it to other members.
Hi everyone ! I’m also interested to buying one shredder parts kit, because in my country (France) that was just impossible to found one company who is working with simple people…
If somebody is making a buying group, just tell me, or i will contact some company that i have find in this topic.
Thank you a lot !

I’ve been trying to just flat out buy the Filamaker from Germany. They seem to be unable to receive payment in any way. The payment method they recommend doesn’t even work so I can’t get it. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or know what I’m doing wrong?
Good Morning Everyone,
I’m seeing the pricing for these parts to be laser cut for roughly $200 as the best case scenario. I gotta tell ya, I’m still scratching my head (to the point where my hair is falling out) with disgust. While I’m sure it can be justified 6 ways from Sunday why this is a feasible price to pay for something like this, I keep referring back to an article from Popular Science (February 2017 Written by Meaghan Lee Callaghan) where Dave Hakkens is interviewed and proclaims that these machines can be had for $135.00-$215.00 EACH, and takes 3-5 days to complete.
So, if someone can show me how it can be done, that would be great, or if Dave would like to show how it can be done that would be even better. And, please don’t insult me by telling me he’s was referring to someone who owned a junk yard, machine shop, or an armature repair facility that has access to motors I may vomit and have to upload the image(j/k on the upload, not the vomiting part). But, back on a serious note, while I understand there are costs involved and people have to make a living, I’m not sure where Dave gets off spewing out misleading information.
So, if Dave or anyone can show me how most lay people can acquire this setup for the said cost of $135-$215, please by all means, show me. If not, I believe an apology and written retraction should be made because statements made to a major science publication are frankly NOT true. This can be made right by showing all of us lay people how it can be done at that price or writing a retraction so people like me won’t be sucked in and waste literally months of time just to eat a BIG BS burger, it’s not fair to people and it destroys the hopes and dreams of anyone trying to legitimately clean up the environment and ultimately build this machine.
I’m sorry if I come off brash, I’m upset, frustrated, and quite frankly completely let down, I’m not looking for an argument or to upset/anger anyone over my statements. I’m the kind of person that keeps my word and when I make a statement, I STAND behind it; I am a Scientist and if I tell someone that it can be done I either provide proof or just plain do it for said cost/time, no BS, no excuses, and no run around. Showing prices that ONLY reflect laser cutting at $200 would mean that the rest of the machine should be built for less than $5, of which I highly doubt.
Thank you for listening.
I’m working on getting cheaper pricing for the shredder, including some ideas I have for the motor. Should have something together by new years. I’ve been working in manufacturing for 10+ years now, I’ll get it rocking!
Hey guys seems like everyones working hard to find a reliable and affordable manufacturer. I’m in Alaska and I’m asking around, online and in person. If I find anything I’ll post, but otherwise, I’m interested in ordering too so if you find a good deal please share!
I’m trying to piece together what happened here and I’m not sure – can someone who tried to organize the group buy give an update as of JAN 8?
@dreek00 and @samsmith you two tried to coordinate a group buy with BBC Steel Corp, but it fell through and @dreek00 you just ended up buying one set from them? @samsmith did you get the stainless steel shredder that you posted a photo of from BBC Steel Corp also? Thanks guys!
@nostradamus1973 Hi, I understand your point. I wish I knew a better company to get this parts for cheaper, unless is a group buy when the company will lower the prices for more quantity. More quantity = cheaper
You can try BBC Steel which is the company I’ve chosen so far they have been good to me and even called to thank me. Because this post they have been receiving a lot of orders to ship all over the world.
@dukejcdc Hey dude! that sounds awesome! I’ve always wanted to provide the community with a cheaper and more accessible laser cut parts. You can share some ideas with @katharinaelleke she was able to lower the price by adding some regular steel parts (a Hybrid version of the shredder)
Of course if people choose to go full stainless steel will be pricy
@emmsclaire Hi Emma, Im sorry for the late response. Here is the deal:
I was trying to organize the group buy last year, I called BBCSteel personally and negotiated a deal with Randy to lower the prices a bit more and we ended up in the above prices. (as long as we buy more than 10 sets)
I created a google form for everybody who was interested in cheap in, interested users had to fill in with their info and send payment to me in order to buy the bulk. I was willing to receive the money, pay, re distribute (ship
) for everybody who wanted to participate. Lots of people filled the form with “yes cool sign me in!” but no payment, except for one belieber @grantrecycle which sent me the info together with the payment.
I was so disappointed about the response (so much info but not payment and more because I put all the effort to create the forms and spreadsheets and we ended up not meeting the deadline)
Lots of people start commenting that is hard to send money to a stranger (which is valid) so Im pretty sure that was the reason why this felt through
I called @grantrecycle and explained what happened, refunded his money and we became friends 🙂 he currently has his own recycling project in California
I ended up buying a set of for myself and is pretty much built now (waiting on motor to complete my shredder)
Randy called me a bunch of times thanking me for the orders and asked me question about the shredder (people started buying parts on their own… which is fine with me, at the end all I wanted is help the community)
Randy has all the files ready to laser cut he is a great guy he will definitely help you, Randy and I worked together on set up the right files and cut precisely, he also shared that he was getting orders from outside the states too (crazy isn’t?) all thanks to this post
I am currently looking for a company that can do the parts cheaper so if you have any recommendation please feel free to reach out here or to me personally.
