Would this extrusion screw work?

So, I’m trying to build my own extrusion machine. I want it to be powerful enough to create big beams fast and fill other types of big molds in short time. The problem is that I don’t have enough money for that so, I’ve been sourcing used parts to put a machine together for cheap and I found this industrial screw, it is big, but what worries me is that the inner diameter of the screw has the same thickness from end to end. The thread gets narrower as it reaches the end but… Would it work properly? Would it build enough pressure? What kind of machine was this originally used for? What do you guys think? Should I buy it?

This looks enormous! What size is it? Would you get a tube and bandheaters for that diameter? It looks like you wold need some kilogramms of plastic before something comes out of the nozzle.
And actually it is the wrong way round. The top is where the plastic would be compressed, so the nozzle would be on top of that. But there is your axe, which has to be at the bottom.
Oh that’s right, I’d need to modify it. The guy selling isn’t sure what machine it came from, and that detail you mention only makes it more intriguing. And yes, it is pretty huge. It’s like one meter tall maybe a bit more, I would not have a problem with using more plastic. There’s plenty where I live. But yes, I would have to build my machine around it, whinch will result in a massive machine.
But after modifying it do you think it would do a decent job compressing it?. Here’s the thing: the guy is asking for around 35 usd for it, so it sound like a no-brainer. So, I’m gonna get it. In pretty sure I can build something interesting with it but I need to know it would do the trick compressing the melted plastic or not because I really want to gets started melting plastic. That would be amazing.
Still, think about the kilowatts you need to heat the barrel (if you find one), and the size of the motor to turn that thing.
Sounds like a bargain to me. It may be from some food processing machinery, like a pasta extruder.
And I don’t think it’s the ‘wrong way round’ the shaft you see sticking out the top is probably to attach a valve tip, the screw would be driven from the other end.
I got a message back from the seller, it is 12 cm in diameter.
It’s massive haha. I’ll see if I can buy it this week and I’ll be posting updates of my design for this machine here. I will appreciate any input, all advises and suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks friends!
