Would this work for the shredder?
I have an old Craftsman Electric Edger. I am wondering if this would work in building the shredder. I will list the information from the edger below. I believe it is too fast as it is but it is what I have available to me at this time.
Cycle 60 AC
Develops Over 1.0 HP
I have very little experience in this department but eager to get started with the cause!
My guess is that would be a 3600 RPM motor. For the shredders here most use a gear reduction in the 30-60 RPM range. I don’t think you’d have good results trying to use that, for this application you really need low speed/high torque, not high speed/low torque in the case of a motor like you described.
I am having troubles finding what a suitable motor might come in? I am trying to keep cost low and find something that might a suitable motor in it to pull from. In St. Louis, MO I cannot just walk through a junk yard and most of the are auto specific.
What is the rated rpm that it is developing over 1hp?
