not exactly plastic but this one left me speechless, ‘drill through anything

I wonder if the path from flakes to dust could be done by going back to the high speed circular saw blades of death. That concept tends to generate dust whether you want it of not. The trick may be to design a feed mechanism (belt?) that provides a steady flat stream.

@s2019 not exactly, as much I’d like; We teamed up with a 3D print specialist; they told me there are now plenty of companies here in Catalonia and elsewhere who shred PET but don’t know what to do with that stuff; hence 100Kg of PET flakes are about 10 Euro just. However, they found a way printing it but before you have to grind it down to dust. We put now all resources to work out a v3 (hard to do since it jams even at 3-4 Kw, not to mention it’s not made for hard stuff ) / v4 compatible grinder addon (transmission is the biggest problem right now). But lets see this soon in another dedicated topic. I am still struggling to get our new football field size hall up and running; surrounded by metal and plastic specialists; for now I know there will be the printer, shredder and grinder package, pre-grinded PET packs as well for whose who want to go straight to print 🙂

Doing this kinda instruments as in your rhysonic video is pretty much what I’d love to see coming out of the PP community <3 (thats why I love you alu folie mold ‘trick’, it seems to open endless ways to build real useful machines from lego like buildup plastic), way to go !

So you’ve had it, gave up on the shredder…..but now you have all this rotating machinery…..what to do???

Plastic yes. Used toilet seat….not so much.

Also if you see these guys coming……Take down your “zimmer frei” sign…just a suggestion.

A playlist would be great. I think this thread was meant more for the humorous and loosely related videos. Maybe start an new thread to collect more on topic videos.

@timberstart – great stuff, thanks a lot.

Here a session with ‘Marcin Jakubowski’ from ‘Open Source Ecology’ speaking about building a Amazon store; interesting though for PPers because the fees & hassle seem to be relative reasonable. I hope we can get the first machines and components over there sometime next year 🙂

24/10/2019 at 20:07

@s2019, thanks a million – that guy definitely keeps me smiling & amazed for quite while (i actually have to remind myself to stop laughing – turning brass with a chisel). no seriously; that’s a great catch – looking at all the details – with a trained eye – there is endless tips and hints for PPers in those videos. I gonna watch them all now – get ready.

19/10/2019 at 23:25

oh that’s neat – we were about to use old skis for the bow but PVC seems a little more easy since the boys can do that them-self, great find. thanks.

17/10/2019 at 20:53

@s2019 – yeah. I hadn’t much time but upgrading the shop & learning a bunch of new things. Here some motivation to get into chemistry – or better said metal alchemy in this very case. How’s it going ? You managed to sell the bench top mill to your wife ? I’ve got now a smaller one – BF20 – optimum – insane little beast and I am a little in heaven to re-design most of our production and machines with that. As for the neighbor kids, they’re eager to build a bow – there is much to shoot these days; from cops to flying plastic bags.

The upcoming ‘PP next-gen’ version aka ‘v4, just – plus more’ has a scheduler, adjustable via app – also for the shredder module. Luckily our cats want the ‘good’ stuff packaged in those plastic bags. It’s  getting a little messy but from what I heard from the FDA ‘we eat plastic up to the amount of a credit card, a week’ – that should be fine with the cats too – sometimes we feel they’re trash bins – just on legs. But hey, you’re right – nowadays with soo many food scandals – you can perfectly use cats as bad food detector. We stopped  buying a good bunch products of already 🙂

Then there is the v5 mixer module – perfect to smuggle some clay as worm treatment into the food. Perfect, I start loving this 🙂

Btw, I just checked on this bench top mill, it’s a widespread model and works like charm, for 3K just – quite a game changer but at second traders you get a mill which has gear cutting too 🙂

07/10/2019 at 22:28

@s2019, damn – exactly what I needed, so many times; hilarious – having the problem AND the solution in front of your eyes – for soo long. I am adding this to the v3 & v4 feature map – please assume a few more thousand people making their way to PP soon. (actually the neighbor way feels a little better, for the cats too)

Btw,

I’ve got a little orgasm yesterday to see the tiny & minimal shop of Stefan Gotteswinter. I didn’t know about grinding (grinder = 1K) your own carbide at home but this is going to save me a days of work 🙂

20/09/2019 at 16:34

@s2019, just a little recommendation : a CNC is a great thing to build yourself if you want to learn something new but honestly, after so many own and failed builds – you want something which just works (leveling, electronics, … stuff which can drive you crazy, for weeks or months even ). At the end it’s just another tool. Don’t be too shy to go for a machine able to cut Aluminum at least which is a game changer for makers (you want some fun – right ? ). If you need something which mills metal (just do, it’s just the B after A and there is no C), take one from Craiglist. There are popular bench top models (can’t tell right now) – ready for a conversion; best is of course just to get one of those already. I can’t wait to see Stan next year competing with good old Tony 🙂 Tell your wife it’s absolutely needed to fix the house and the car…lol

20/09/2019 at 01:05

Hey
you may wanna checkout the TipBlitz hashtag on youtube. Not just cherries but quite some diamonds this year 🙂

Btw. ‘Sebastian End’ published the plans for his CNC. That’s pretty much the best build I’ve seen since long – still in the 4-6K range but very convincing for a home shop CNC mill.

Almighty Oxtoolco, working with plastic. Interesting techniques, using brass wool for polishing.

Yeah, the drift bike is much safer…you don’t need a helmet…just a safety tie

12/09/2019 at 19:29

@s2019, yeah, indeed. Luckily I’ve got a student who finally made her way through the shredder 🙂 Funny you mention this; I have some fun with the neighbor kids since some time, building nasty slingshots and the like ( HDPE balls mold in progress). Let me try first Colin’s drift bike – got some first parts. Quite decadent to fire up a 2 cylinder combustion chambers nowadays but I guess god has a special place for me, doing some PP additions 🙂

It’s btw. ‘PlasticHub’, ‘Precious-Plastic’ was too specific 😉

@ppboys , When you are tired of assembling shredder bits, take a break and make one of these. It even comes in the official @ppboys colors.

I do like the roadrash ready shorts, tank top, no gloves safety kit.

26/07/2019 at 00:21

You can also do nice games, we love Tangram and ‘Go‘ as well; should be easy to make a custom stamp like cutter.

19/07/2019 at 14:20

Since I am nice guy, that’s how it feels sometimes building machines for PP; wish you all a nice weekend

13/05/2019 at 08:56

@s2019, a saw like that needs a pretty loud & fast motor and the whole thing is a pretty risky undertaking, at least making this as commercial device. conventional grinding is done by this kind of blades. Those blades rotate about 700 RPM, against a stationary blade. however, this can be a pretty cheap machine since single phase motor can be used (but with run & start capacitors) and in top those blades dont seem to wear out at all 🙂

Another take on “saving the planet”, just by Jim Jefferies, hilarious.

Short satire about environment activists create smoke screens to distract you from getting wet. Whilst at it, let’s not forget George Carlin on ‘Saving the planet‘.

going on with the posts. here is a pretty young guys ‘workshop’, visited by NYCNC; makes me cry, lol

sounds great, let me get Old Tony´s Schaeubling 13 and a surface grinder first, after that I can do the parts for the espresso machine in the best maker porn fashion possible, no seriously, every time I thought I know something, there’s just another video around the next corner making me cry like a baby, incl. the coffee machine 🙁

Not sure if a desktop injection machine is for you? How about this machine to get you started every morning?

Hehe, considering this indeed to build for my cats only 🙂 They got a little addicted to a random laser and seem a little angry that there is nothing to catch. They want it started each day on time, just as with food.

Since this post is one of the longest around and this forum might get killed with still no replacement for the other one hundred different content types which won’t find place on Discord, let me add a few cherries to the round:

– ‘Mr Carlson’s Lab‘ : electronics (mainly restoration), I really enjoy this channel a lot. He can explain you complex things in a few minutes just. If you like getting into electronics or a glimpse of it, please keep watching ‘Ben Eater‘ as well, regardless you don’t understand it all. Whilst at it, here one more channel called ‘AddOhms‘ – comes with lots of entry level but juicy videos.

– ‘Blondy Hacks‘, yes – listen ladies! She’s doing fantastic entry level machining videos and has a few tricks which might leave even the ‘pros’ speechless

and yes, there is fun in there too 🙂

Let’s say you got your hands on an industrial robot. You could raise your environmental karma by sorting plastic http://onearmy.world/community/forums/topic/sorting-plastic-with-robotics-v4/ or you can do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P4xiNx-hc4 (you can skip to 2:10)
