Thanks very much! Did you find that a 2.2 kilowatt/ 2hp motor was required to make the shredder or can we use a less powerful one?

@herowe Where were you able to get the cutting done and where did you buy the steel? I am in Durham, NC and the quotes I am getting are close to $1000 dollars.

Hello Vanessa!

My name is Jenna and I am a high school student in Durham, NC also looking to build the shredder. We have a group of people very interested, but are having trouble finding cost effective ways to do the laser cutting. Have you had any luck with this?

Thanks!

Jenna

Has anyone had an issue with the lack of tolerances? The hex bar required seems to have the same dimensions as the hole it goes through. The pieces that make the box around the blades seem to have notches with the same dimensions as the places where they interlock. I would like to avoid grinding the pieces as I am working in a high school’s fabrication lab.

In addition, has anyone ever used mild steel rather than stainless steel for the laser cut parts? Welding stainless steel will be difficult and costly for our group and we are students working within a grant.

Thank you!
