@davehakkens you could have a look to this service onesignal.com

It’s web notification service that is free (yeah they probably use some data)
People can subscribe to notifications in 2 clicks and get updated everytime there is a new update.

You can segment people by asking them what type of content they would like to receive (PP, storyhopper, kamps …)
You could also segment by counties, skills etc…

Pro
– It is fairly easy to add to a wordpress website.
– It takes a second to send a notification (title message link –> send)
– Directly integrated into wordpress dashboard (but it can also be use seperately)
– Works on all the recent browser and android  (not ios)
– It is free (whatever the number of people subscribed)
– My email address gets ways to much newsletters

Cons
They probably sale some data.

Wow great content @raulserrano

Also thanks for the feedback about  aldeasabandonadas.com I don’t know anything about this website, it’s just what i found around 2 years ago looking around the internet.

Also you’re right to check the distance from airport it is a criteria that i would never thought of but can be very practical in terms of mobilizing people on the spot.

Great idea, I love it.

I also thought about a similar idea few years back,
I ended up stoping it, maybe a bit to utopistic at the time for just a few friends.

You can look at this website they are selling villages that has been deserted and lands in Spain.
Villages
https://www.aldeasabandonadas.com/venta-de-aldeas.html
Lands
https://www.aldeasabandonadas.com/venta/venta-fincas-parcelas.html

Some of theme aren’t cheap but there were some big lands for cheap at the time.

At some point the Spain government was giving some for free if you were submitting a environmental project/ rehabilitation.

Aslo i would suggest a river rather than a lake, to make hydropower which is cleaner and more reliable on long terme than solar panel.

Also i would suggest to give a look to GEN (eco village network)

Here is the map of all the places.

Ecovillage Projects Map

I went to visit one in Tarifa (spain) they had some really great feedback on how to start and methodology to mobilize people on this type of project (dragon dreaming methodology)

also unmonastery project was really interesting (unfortunately i think it had to stop)

Hello It’s been long time since I haven’t follow up on this.

So the main reason it’s that is has been a fail for  multiple reasons, I ll try to explain my tests so you can learn from it.

The silicon molding went perfect I clean it up after it dried with a blade.

So i my first  2 or 3  attempts to pull plastic into it every I failed because the mold was to cold so every time I would push some plastic into the mold the plastic would get lower in temperature and get harder so it would not fill the mold.

At the end i decided to put the mold into the hoven but the mold wasn’t supporting the high temperature and bubble would create in the mold deforming the mold.

So to conclude story is to be continued….

I’ll try again with silicon with a higher temperature resistance to melt the plastic directly into the mold will se how it goes

I am also playing with hdpe and i just put a litle extra flour on the baking paper.

I mainly heat up a 175- 180 degrees to be able to hand mold the plastic (with gloves).

I also use glass bottle as rolling pin (just like pizza dough) to get it less think (but you can alway fold it) and better plastic consistancy.

Hey @davehakkens,

I’ve made an easier setup process for the theme activation for the first time. I also updated the ReadMe file as it took me a lot of research and debugging to get the theme up and running on the first time.

I still have some issues to get the forum part working but it is already a good start.

In other words i have added a required plugin on theme activation that suggest you plugins to install on theme activation (screenshot 1)

And added to install process on the readme the 2 Components needed in BuddyPress Settings for the theme page to show up without bugs (screenshot 2)

I’ve made a branch ‘requiered-plugin’ but the thing is that i can not send my pull request I get an error “You may not have permission to access davehakkens” any chance you could add me the the repo permission ??

For example, a lot of us still buy water in plastic bottles (PET) and after reusing it a couple of times (at best) we throw the bottle away. This is not anyhow sustainable, so one of the solutions would be buying a reusable (metal) flask that could be washed and refilled.

Hello @jegor-m,

I totally agree about what you say and have also myself a metal bottle that I reuse/refill, But… (cause there is a but) this is easy to say where tap water is drinkable water. I recently moved to the philippins, we have a 30 litter tanks that is refilled every month (apparently they are really not the healthiest option) and I still also rely on buying 6 litter bottles (rather than 1.5L) when the tank is empty.

This was just to mention that even trying to reduce you waste and being aware of all this sometimes you have to rely on it for health or other reasons.

Cool great to hear that you’re all very enthusiastic. I’m not filipino but i leave in manila and willing to start it up as well.

@abcdenme , @jaypablo feel free to join anyway as we might create subgroups based on location to connect with local people you could start with.

@dbougas here is the mold.

First learning is to not use old leather case and more of a plastic case. It disintegrated itself into the silicon.

The result is quite impressive the mold looks great and very precise, looks strong enough not to bend when pressing the HDPE into it.

My question right now is should i remove the (rounded) edges as i fell like the HDPE won’t flow into the sides and make the rounded finish edges at the end.

What do you think ??

Learning number 2 : next time I ll try with iPhone SE case as there is way less rounded edges 😝

Hello @louiemarie,

We are multiple people interested in the project at the moment in Manila.
I might organize our first meetup with the local community in a few weeks (just need to get time to organize it. )

We have a Facebook group to chat around the subject and maybee soon organize meetups.

Feel free to join it and tell us about your skills and how you’re willing to help around the project 😉

Cheers

Malo

waiting for it to dry i might wait 24h to be sure that it’s fully dry then i’ll post un update. I compressed it to be sure that the silicon goes all around the case.

Edit : after thought i should have put some all around first then place the case in the middle. anyway i will see

I work also with silicon mold.
But never didn’t them myself

It’s the first time ever for me but i felt like it was worse it to give it a try

Ok this topic got me exited… I don’t have a shredder, i don’t have any of the machines but I have my kitchen hoven (wich will do the job).

So next week i’m gonna try to remake a iPhone case in HDPE based on a cheap silicon mold. I ll make a video to document my experience.

If anyone as some advice feel free to share it (I already look up on youtube).

Keep you updated. 😉

From a technical point of view I think this isn’t really yet possible as buddypress and BBpress (the 2 wordpress plugins used to make the Army and Forum part of the website) REST Api aren’t yet available unless rewriting everything from scratch without using wordpress which i think is really not the priority here.

I check a few month ago and there are some pre release version of the api are out but they aren’t stable yet so not really usable. Btw They should come soon. So you’ll have to wait before any apps comes out.

😉

I think maybee you should try to get in touch with adidas fundation they just lanched this new shoe based on plastic waste from the ocean. i don’t know if it’s a greenwhashing thing or a real value they are trying to push forward for the brand but it sounds good.

They are working with Parley they for sure will have some expert to recommand.

Here is the presentation video of the shoe.

By the way the shoe is crazily overpriced.

Hello @aristootel, I m a french social entrepreneur & web developer , i’m moving to the Philipines in September for at least one year and i ll be interested in helping project around plastic recycling.

Where about are you based in the Philipines ?

About the Machines I have heard that the NGO Gawad Kalinga might be building soon a Fablab at the Enchanted Farm that could be a place to start and where you could find people to get involve in the project.

Also there is multiple people on the forum in the army section maybe we could try to start a dedicated topic by sending them a Private message.
