Using an airgun (from an air compressor) to blow out the plastic bits when the shredder is running?
That looks surprisingly good.
How about the toughness & density, no airbubbles in the resulting object?
Not too brittle?
Although it is not a bad platform at all, I don’t think Discourse would be the best option for an Open Source community.
There are a lot of open source alternatives, offering similar features.

How feasible would it be to try an build a heating element/system for an existing press?

Of all the efforts I have seen, the idea/system of a lego like block seems most usable (for interlocking, and yet keeping it hollow)
it will not be easy to make it … you’ll need a big and really good mold

Polypropylene (PP), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polystyrene (PS), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
A procedure to separate them on the basis of their density is demonstrated. Six aqueous solutions (of salts or alcohols) of decreasing density are layered in a test tube and small samples of plastic are dropped in. They settle at different heights, according to their density.
I’m also still looking for someone who can build the machines in Belgium/Netherlands for a reasonable price.
Specifically a shredder which can take and shred empty filament spools (so the shredder and hopper need to be big enough)
No machine builders yet in the area?
