Above is our shredder project. It’s still problematic. I reinforced it, so that the coupling doesn’t spread when it stalls, and so that the pressure relief is set low enough that it doesn’t stall the electric motor when the shredder stalls.
What we still don’t have is enough torque. But I’m wondering…if the clearance on the blades was tighter, would we need less torque? It seems maybe there’s not enough shear with a 1/2mm gap on either side of each tooth.
And maybe there are too many teeth? It stalls on just four teeth with a piece of plastic.
Just looking at it, from a perspective of experience (no engineering), I was thinking I should gear this way down and build it from much stronger materials.
Any thoughts? I’ll try to get a newer video up to show the improvements since this video was shot.
