WON 300.000 EURO and bought something incredible
Massive thanks for everyone that has been a part of the Precious Plastic journey so far! You guys are awesome. The project would be nothing without you sharing/building/shredding/recycling! It started 5 years ago with some shitty machines in my garage to a big network of recyclers around the world. Although we’ve come far there is still a long way to go for Plastic to be considered Precious. Time for a Version 4.

Time for version 4 indeed 🙂
Congratulations Dave! I really think and the community members can back me up, that you should keep some amount of it for yourself. You are a grown up man with grown up necessities and expenses and I don’t think the community would mind if you kept some money for yourself, after all you deserve it. And don’t think just because you’ve said it on video that you won’t so you shouldn’t, no! you can and should reconsider.
It’s just a suggestion. Kudos again.
haha thanks man. But don’t worry about me, i’l be ok 🙂
Dear Dave,
Congratulations on this amazing award!
I have recently come across your wonderful adventure and I want to collaborate with you on something VERY cool!
I’ll send you an email as well but just wanted to create profile here and get your attention.
My project is about how to clean the world from trash in an as effective and cost-efficient manner as possible – I think you’ll like it!
Kind regards,
Andreas
Amazing! This is a project that really has a positive impact on myself and the global community.
One thing I would suggest spending a bit on is verifying the safety of melting different plastics and possible hazardous conditions that could arise. I had some difficulty researching this information and a lot of people ask me and my colleagues about it. I obtained material safety data sheets for the plastics we work with, but that only accounts for industrial-type processes with “clean” material. I am in the process of creating an Arduino-based air quality sensor to monitor the output of the extruder and injectors. When it is operational and i get some results I will share the plans. If this info is already available or if you’ve conducted your own tests, please direct me. We take precautions but I think having this data is extremely important for the cause 🙂
In any case, great work and safe journeys!!!
Hey Dave,
Here goes a crazy idea to spend the money:
Imagine a boat made of LEGO pieces. This boat would cruise the oceans collecting plastic. The plastic collected would be transformed into more Lego pieces, which would be used to make the boat bigger.
The bigger the boat become, the greater its ability to collect, store and transform plastic.
@joaolagido
Sail the ocean on a LEGO boat is… crazy… right…
BUT…
The concept of using recicled plastic for making a boat is cool and the idea to use such a boat for collecting more waste and either sell more boats or lend them in exchange of plastic to be used for making other boats… is a great seed!
🙂 thanks!!!!
just to clarify, by “lego” I meant “modular pieces”.
or…
like you said, instead of building a modular boat, probably it’s easier to build a fleet of boats with the plastic collected…
The idea is that the “container” could be also made of plastic and it could move to the places where the plastic waste abounds.
– It could be a boat sailing in the ocean.
– or a van/truck that goes to the end of music festivals (collecting plastic glasses, bottles….)
🙂

Basically, the idea is:
the “container workspace” could be also made of plastic, which means the more plastic it collects and recycles, the more capacity to recycle it has. And it could be also mobile and move to the places where the plastic waste abounds. Therefore:
– It could be a boat sailing in the ocean.
– or a van/truck that goes to the end of music festivals (collecting plastic glasses, bottles….)
🙂
So I have also been thinking about boats…
My personal passion for Precious Plastic is focused on tempory shelters after disasters, either made on site or brought en mass when needed. My friend who rebuilt houses in Texas (USA) and the Carribean after last years hurricane season said that getting emergency supplies can be slow and complicated, might save some much needed time if we had our own boat…. or one of our own boats in every ocean…
(PS more on the disater shelter ideas soon!)
@davehakkens
Keep unexpected money is toxic…
Reinvest them is smart…
Give them for a good cause is super-human.
Reinvest them in a good cause is heroic.
Reinvest them in your own good cause is Revolutionary!!!
You pick…
I live on a sail boat on Galveston Island Texas so Im loving the boat ideas. Here is an example that maybe could use a precious version. .https://youtu.be/56l2iEsEAx4. Had some experiences with the disaters so shelter concepts for emergency applications also intrested. Im new to interacting so may be someone is doing it already but I know in disater times i appreciated my ice cooler. That could be a great creation for spreading the precious plastic word during good times too. May be it has a plastic trash storage feature to gather materials while enjoying something cold.
Hi. Please help us to make real to Patagonia a better place to live and preserve the Life for all planet
Hey Dave,
Come and Visit India. Help us to start the drive and also help us to make aware everyone about our Mission. No one is aware and also no one ready to take initiative for this great Mission. Please Help Us to Save Nature.
This is just awesome. Yeah as Deep says above, visit India or help us in doing this. We have lots of plastics trust me 🙂
